We have the Digital Entertainment System sending Wireless TV to other machines in the house that do not have a TV tuner card (image). That is an iBook receiving streaming video from from the Digital Entertainment System we have built on the Pegasos (with an ATI 9250SE), running the digital entertainment system LiveCD we presented at the Freescale Technology Forum and developed by Pieter Van den Abeele. It could be PC and/or desktop machine too. What is shown on the screenshot is *live* television playing on a Mac that *does not have* a television tuner card. We think it is really impressive to see a laptop wirelessly play live television full screen. The digital entertainment system does the mpeg2 encoding and streams the live television over either 802.11b or gigE. In this case we used the gigE. The mpeg2 license is bundled with the Happauge video card. The higher the quality of the stream the more bandwidth you need. This stream was a 10mbit/sec stream. BTW, Microsoft thinks it is a good idea too:

We can stream all/any content generated on the Digital Entertainment System, as it is a 'multimedia content server' or 'digital hub' if you wish:
- webcams
- live television
- dvds
- recorded television shows, etc.
Anyone ready to start their own News Channel?
