Hi everyone,

Our team work on VoiP ( video/audio software) called Gnome Meeting. Below you will find a status af the current situation. To be able to do further test and improve the system, we need betatester.
Your help is welcome ! ;)
People interested in the process will have to contact us to receive the Gatekeeper IP to log on the same server.
Thank you !

Concerning the system, it works this way:

Gnome meeting is the VOIP H323 software client
http://www.gnomemeeting.org/

To be able to call someone having the same system (or Net Meeting on
Windows) you need his IP address. To avoid typing the IP address for
each call, we set up a gatekeeper.
http://www.gnugk.org/
and the applet java gkgui (GUI)
http://www.com.dist.unige.it/services/infomaster/gkgui/

Using the Gatekeeper you can call directly somebody using the login
name.
For example in gnome meeting: "callto:marc"
The Gatekeeper will resolve his IP address!

Another software that has been tested: openmcu
It allow multiconference. When using MCU you can chat and see multiple
users at the same time in a room. The gatekeeper sees the room as an
h323 user. Paul, Marc, Sophie ... call the room and they automatically
see and speak as they were together.
http://www.openh323.org/code.html

In development we have now a LDAP solution to make a community as gnome
meeting and his ils.seonix.com XDAP.
Why? We want to call an email address and not an IP address or a user
name known by few people. With this LDAP you can find the other user.

Another goal is to have a whiteboard on gnome meeting. We do not have
this working yet.

We will have to think a solution to announce the multiconferece,
through a website for example: Message: Meeting at 16:15 on conference
room XXX

The goal is to have the gatekeeper, OpenMCU and LDAP running on the
same machine, a Pegasos, to have a complete packaged solution.

HEY!

Can we get a few Betatesters to try this out?!

We will discount the new 7447A CPU card to all who assist in this development!!!

Great project!

Sven L and I were wanting to really get into Gnome meeting usage but
never had the time. I also was having a hard time mounting my FW
digital video camera for use with it...

What is needed is a hw (cam) compatibility list or so.

I would like to help you guys with this and we can have conference
calls from nyc to whereever you guys are.

@BBRV

I'll take you up on that offer

:-)

Great. A side note for laughs: @SNDF Dallas sven and I were going to call your room from the peg with gnome meeting - but things were too hectic..

;-)

ps What speed is the new cpu card at now?

Great. I think a great way to get the betatesting project going is to get all those involved to have same setups of hw and have a VOIP conference..

BTW do you have a Peg with you?

Hi together!

GnomeMeeting already worked fine on my Pegasos, when I talked to
Sven on his Pegasos-machine! :) But lately I tried to use it
with my brother and the registration-server was down.

I used Linphone more often. The latest beta-version has the ppc
byteorder problem fixed and works with Linphone on the other side
as well as with kphone. But it looses its registration from time
to time, at least on the sipgate-service, that I use.

Looking forward to some VOIP talking with other Pegasos-Users! :)

Thomas: thanks for your help :) Concerning the video you can use there are two options: USB or Firewire. For one or the other you need to download the appropriate plug in. If you need any help setting up the system feel free to contact
me or Romain ( grossmain@free.fr)
For the other, thaanks as well. For now you can already call each other using IP adress, as soon as the server is set up we'll go trough a pegasos serving as gatekeeper and MCU.

Stay tuned ! :)

I think this is a very exciting project. I would love to be involved,
however I'm am not running Linux yet. It is my plan to start doing so
by June at the latest. Tapero, if you are still in need of
betatesters at that time, I would love to be involved.

Well, I have Debian/Gnome running on my Peg, but I am not sure if the G3 would be fast enough for that?

No problem, the G3 is fast enough. The application doesn't use a lot of CPU ressources and it is good for the benchmark to have some test with the G3 as well.
Welcome on board ! ;)

Tapero

What "plug in" do I need to enable my Firewire digital vid cam to work with Gnome Meeting? Where can I get it and how to install?

Here are some more notes:

1. Maybe we can start some sort of special forum or ML for this project?

2. Have you done video over ip with peg?

Thanks

magnetic
