Post subject:  USB Printer with Ubuntu and CUPS?

Hi guys

I'm running Ubuntu Dapper Drake with latest kernel and have an Epson 740 printer hooked up to my USB port. Can someone please help me set this up for printing with CUPS? I tried to use the setup printer tool, but it doesnt show up. Any help is appreciated and please be as verbose as possible.

Thank you

magnetic

I have a Brother HL-1430 Laserprinter connected via USB running on
my Pegasos Fileserver. I run Gentoo however and what you need is
Foomatic (no idea if this exists for Ubuntu, but contains drivers
for loads of printers) and then download the PPD-driver from
LinuxPrinting.org.

I would guess there is an intuitive GUI for setting up a printer
in Ubuntu - otherwise try the web-based admin GUI at localhost:631.

isn't there a printtool in ubuntu.. otherwise you could install cups and log in to the GUI and just add the printer there.. maybe you need to add some ppd:s

then it should work (tm)
