Power.org has had a slow start. In one sense, you have the market moving so quickly and Intel moving so powerfully that it seems Power is headed in the same direction of Sparc, which open or not is effectively into history. Why does Power still have a chance? Read this: http://www.power.org/blog/?p=50 A year ago, Freescale was headed off in their own direction. They are still focused on quarterly earnings because that is where their performance objectives are, but the big news is there. The Power ISA Version 2.03 That is the big news. The branding stuff is cool and an indication of so much more than a marketing position. PAPR less the hypervisor is CHRP and we know how to support CHRP. Things are moving, but these are big companies effectively managed in this sense by individuals in the middle of the organizations. We will be capturing the attention of upper management when things start to happen aroud the EFIKA and the OSW. R&B ![]() |

We want to add a few more words on this. Have a look: Power vs Pentium: competitive thoughts We moderate the Power.org Forums. That is the first time we have seen Freescale initiate a topic and it is also the first time that both IBM and Freescale have posted anything of significance together in the same thread. What we appreciate is that we now see people like Toby Foster involved. Remember this: SNDF Europe 2004 Scroll down to Part 2 - PegasosPPC Day and look at the second to last row of pictures. On the right you have Thomas and Gerald and on the left you have Toby (left) and Konstantinos (right). Toby has been working on the 8641D for a while. It is probably safe to say now that there was once a 8620 on the drawing board at Freescale. Gerald was providing some thought input on the 8620. That input worked its way into the 8641D and Toby led the development to conclusion. It is great to start to see people like Toby involved. Things are looking up! BTW, we will have Konstantinos back soon from the Greek Army! He is sergeant now so straighten-up and fly right. ![]() Hey Everybody! Things *are* moving... ![]() Participate (...and help us push the big guys to get going)!!! R&B ![]() |

On the subject of Power.org... We need some support. Power.org has very few "real" Developers outside of the companies that are members; that is unless they are ODW or PegasosPPC users. We think we will see a surge in "Power" users with the introduction of the EFIKA, so the prospects look good, but in the meanwhile we need to drive some participation over to the Power.org Forums. Can you give us a hand? ![]() Here are a few topics for your consideration. Please participate! http://www.power.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=382 We plan on including MorphOS in this effort. http://www.power.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=84 a) The Solaris on Power kernel will be finally released this coming week by Sun. b) We would like to get mypowerpc.org integrated into Power.org http://www.power.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=1031#1031 Power.org is starting to move... http://www.power.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=381 Peter will get some discussion kicked off there! http://www.power.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=19 Feel free to add one if we forget it or it is not mentioned already! http://www.power.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=1028#1028 ...and that is a FACT - and when the EFIKA starts to ship at $99 watch out! Thanks! R&B ![]() |
