Geek Times just posted some additional information on the Applied Micro (formerly AMCC) APM801xx series:

http://www.eeproductcenter.com/dsp/revi ... =224900742

including a link to an APM801xx presentation:

http://i.cmpnet.com/dspdesignline/2010/ ... tation.pdf

Page 2 of the presentation gives a lot of technical specs, such as:

PPC405 core with 16KB I and D caches plus 256KB 2nd level shared cache.

128KB on-chip SRAM.

16-bit DDR1/2 SDRAM with optional ECC.

Two one-lane PCIe, one shared with SATA.

Two 10/100/1G Ethernet MAC with TCP/IP assist.

USB 2.0 OTG w/ transceiver.

LCD controller (no details).

Pretty good for $10, except for 16-bit SDRAM interface.

They announced pricing on the development kit: $800, as I feared. Obviously they don't want to compete with BeagleBoard and Freescale Tower.
