Does anyone feel up to porting this to AROS? Or, optimizing it for Linux on i.MX515 for NEON and VFP units where relevant? (or porting it to Efika/MorphOS as a side project to go with rdesktop and vnc?)

Genesi would be willing to assist on the project, do the hard work on getting it certified and engineering it on a real product.
