Terra Soft Teaming up with Themis on Single-Board Computer
http://www.osnews.com/story.php/17101/T ... d-Computer
"Linux distributor Terra Soft, makers of the Fedora-based Yellow Dog Linux distribution for the PPC platform, recently announced plans to provide a complete Linux distribution for the TPPC64, a single-board computer developed by Themis. Terra Soft, which once specialized in Linux support for Apple computers, has found several new PPC Linux niches since Apple's unexpected transition to Intel processors."

"
Themis' TPPC64™ is the industry's first family of 6U VMEbus computer boards based on the IBM® PowerPC® 970FX processor. Two TPPC64 configurations are available; a single- processor, and a dual-processor, symmetric multiprocessing solution. The PowerPC 970FX processor provides maximum performance for existing 32-bit applications and new 64-bit applications.

The 1.8 GHz TPPC64, in a single-processor configuration, can be configured with up to 4 GBytes of DDR400 memory and includes two Gigabit Ethernet ports and support for a Single Ultra320 SCSI channel. The single-processor TPPC64 also includes a high performance Universe II VME64x interface, two 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports, two USB ports, AC97 audio, and two serial ports.

A second processor may be added, in a second VME slot, communicating with the baseboard via a processor-flexible interface.

Higher levels of I/O integration can be achieved by adding a PMC carrier card, hosting up to additional three PMC slots.

• Single 1.8 GHz IBM PowerPC 970FX processor
• Dual processor configuration occupies two VMEbus slots
• Up to 4 GB of DDR400 SDRAM memory
• Power - Single-CPU configuration:
12V power: 10.0A typical
5V power: 2.5A typical
• Power - Dual-CPU configuration (with PMC slot on CPU1 board)
12V power: 14.0A typical
5V power: 3.5A typical
• Two Gigabit Ethernet ports
• Optional Carrier board PCI I/O expansion supports up to 3 PMC slots
• Additional VME-backplane access
• Support for Linux
• Rugged design for reliability in harsh operating environments—up to 30G shock"
------------------------------

perhaps someone should really try and bring out a Cell based board that can take 1 gig+ of ram and all the basic trimings to take advantage of the UK/EU ps3 launch but at a better price.....
