We had a significant discussion about this thread today with a *new* -- but only a *potential* -- CELL licensee/buyer.
Any more thoughts on any of this? Please post.
We might end up building a CELL reference design?! :D
We would have never thought that... Thanks!

Well, according to some

Cell is here to stay for a long time and play an important role in media processing and high-performance computing. With the backs of IBM, Sony, Mercury, etc, I would consider it a very wise decision to jump onto the Cell boat and make money out of it. But again, mid-range is missing, only low-end (if you consider the performance of the PS3 low-end :-), and high-end systems are available with the Cell CPU. The PS3 is unsuitable as a development system, as well as the 1U servers and blades from SONY/IBM. AFAIK, only MC produces Cell workstations, but these are again in the high end region. I would think anyone who would produce mid-range Cell workstations with pretty much standard peripherals (SATA, USB2, etc) would find a nice niche market to profit upon :-)
