I ran some demos, which looked really nice. Then I tried to see, what preferences could be changed, which resulted in a crash. Also, when I move a window, often gray and orange traces are left behind. Of course, background goes back to plain black, when I try to take a snapshot of it :-) And here is the serial log for the crash...

Aaah, Zune crashed. Sorry for not warning you. The problem is, I have compiled whole AROS contrib with all the additional MUI classes from there. Some of them are badly written and tend to crash on all non-x86 targets.

That is a strange artefact indeed. Try to run SYS:Tools/Commodities/Opaque and look whether the redraw issues are there, too.

And please, do me a favour and make one more test. PLug an USB stick when AROS is up and update the Wanderer. Eventualy, type C:Info in shell one or two times. :)

Could you make a build with only know to work stuff? :) I don't really know, what to avoid, as I never used an Amiga, had MorphOS only for a couple of minutes on my machine (was quite angry, when realized, that it trashed a couple of my Linux partitions), and it is the first time I try AROS (actually the second, as once I tried it in vmware, but it crashed too quickly...).

SYS:Tools/Commodities/Opaque made it worse. Once I ran it, the orange trace never disappeared...

duh. I just realized there was a perfectly good thread on the subject going here, after i had submitted an anonymous post to Michal's blog. I'll just repost it here, where the discussion can be more easily tracked.

Michal, my attempt to boot from a flash key the live iso presented here [ed: aros-efika-20090308.iso.bz2] did not quite succeed. It reached a point where it had loaded everything from menu.lst, had cleared/overwritten a char (or two) at the upper-left corner of the screen, had unmounted and re-mounted the flash key (judging by the key's LED activity), but having done all that it just stood there, motionless.

My exact setup:

efika5k2, OF 1.3 (from 2007), one apple pro kbd and one 128MB 'S Talent Flash Drive 2.0 Media' flash key attached to the usb ports directly. Video is an ATI 9250 PCI 256MB. I had dd'ed the iso onto the flash, so the latter fs was iso9660. nothing attached to the miniIDE.

ps: unfortunately i don't have a nullRS cable available at the moment, so i cannot report what diagnostics say, sorry. i'll probably seek out one next week.

edit: wait, do i need to have the flash key formatted as one of those two amiga fs? blimey. would the OF even see that?

OK, it seems no bootable volume has been found. I guess I shall add some kind of requester/boot picture explaining that :)

Pity to hear that. Unfortunately AROS is not so good in autodetection of file systems. Therefore, it assumes that unpartitioned removable devices (eg. CD/DVD/CD over USB) have iso9660 fs. The unpartitioned non-removable devices are assumed to be FAT formatted. This is the reason why AROS did not found bootable device. It was expecting your USB stick to be fat formatted. But, even if you would do it so and use FAT flash key, AROS will not boot from it, as our FAT filesystem is not bootable at all at this moment.

AROS can boot only from iso9660 (from removable device), FFS and SFS.

in terms of amiga fs formatting, i guess my best bet is morphos, right?
