Hello everybody.

I have put together a small bootkernel with the program memtester which allow you to check your memory on your pegasos. This one is a first release and does contain a bug/feature You have to write the boot arguments in this order.

boot memtester memtester=<your amounts of memory in digits and megabytes> init=/linuxrc

if you hade 512MB of memory in your pegasos the boot line would be

boot memtester memtester=512 init=/linuxrc

To get this nice piece of software you could get it at mupper's homepage att this location http://www.mupper.org/memtester
and the md5sum should be 46216233800ae3ce7bd2123d224dfeb3

I hope this could be useful if you are suspecting a faulty memory stick and it will be included on the next mupper release :)

does it say anything more that a kernel panic. I only get kernel panic if I haven't specified the memory correctly. to bad I don't have 1GB memory stick in my peg so I can test it.

but try to boot with a lower amount of memory specified like 512 what does it happen then?

well i don't think i have the time to write every lines down here before the kernel panic, but i'll try to find a way to capture it for you.
with memtester=512 it works well.

lisardman,

With 512 Mb I also got a kernel panic by running memtester with the syntax you gave. Is it possible to send all the displayed informations before the kernel panic via a pipe to a log file somewhere and how please ?

The easiest is always to connect a nullmodem cable..

if you remove the init=/linuxrc you could run memtester from the busybox if you want more control of it.. I don't think usb-keyboards will work..

For all of those with kernel crashes: please try to use this method to calculate tested RAM size:
Code:
RAM MB - 16
In my case it's:
Code:
256 - 16 = 240
and it works fine, it could not find any errors until now :-)

I think, the problem is, that all of the kernel, busybox and the memtester itself use RAM. Memtester seems to reserv a huge chunk of RAM and only test that.

hard to get it work in any other way. I have tried to slim it down.. but I think this could be helpful anyway even if it is a little bit buggy in the boot process.
