Hi!

I'm mainly a Java developer, so I'm curious to know if the latest PPC version of Java from Sun uses Altivec in any way. Since it's targetted to "embedded", maybe not?

What about IBM's Java VM? Does Java runs faster with Altivec?

It would be cool to have JAI (Java Advanced Imaging) libraries running natively and using Altivec. So far, only Intel got native implementations of JAI. By the way, JAI comes preinstalled in the new MacBook and it flies compared with JAI in a MacMini G4 (or my Pegasos2 G3 ^^; ...)

Thanks in advance.

If you have the source nothing prevents you from having them natively implemented and properly accelerated.

I don't know at all JAI libraries so I cannot tell you how feasible is, in general image related operation are simpler to implement than other tasks (eg: crypto)
