Hello,

I contact you about a news you post on www.ppczone.com about Java support on Pegasos (ODW). Can you tell me more about this ? Is it another project to port Java to this plate-form ? There are already a lot of try to do this before and nothing is running today yet.

Which version of Java will be supported ?

Is it plan to develop a version for MorphOS ?

Regards,
Toine

I have IBM's JDK for Java 1.4 running on my Gentoo/PPC system.

Yes, I'm running the IBM Java 1.4.2 too. I think it works very well. I even got JBuilder 2005 running on it, which was very fun.

I think Blackdown is working on Java 1.5 for PPC too. Could be worth waiting for.

Hello!

One of my question belongs here:

How do you get java working with firefox on gentoo? I have emerged the IBM's jre and jdk (-bin), but there is no 'javaplugin_oji.so' in them. Then I've emerged the Blackdown's jdk, witch contains that plugin. I made a simlink to firefox's plugin directory. But somehow doesn't work. I did emerge firefox with java use flag, and emerged those jdks with mozilla use flag. What else do I miss?

IBM does not provide a browser plugin. The Blackdown plugin has been broken for quite some time due to changes in Gecko (the Mozilla HTML rendering engine). Konqueror and Opera can both use Java without a plugin, but I'm not sure how well it works.

Emerge? My Pegasos isn't connected to the internet. :(
I am downloading IBMJava2-SDK-142.ppc.tgz (59MB) from Gentoo FTP now.
I hope it will work on my Pegasos II G4 / Gentoo PPC system.

Hi!

The IBM Java is just working fine! For use with a www browser I suggest using Opera... I just emerged that browser, set up the java for it, and it works really nicely! Even faster (mutch faster) than on my p4@2GHz with fedora!!!!! :D :D :D
