Hello,

I am very interested in booting the MX smarttop with puppy linux from an SD Card. This is to ensure the adequate cpu-work applications for my robotics platform run responsively (nothing seriously intensive but I need a small OS).

My problem is I have mounted the puppy linux image to the SD card, but the MX smarttop won't boot from the SD card. It just skips it and seems to boot from it's internal drive--which for some reason is showing a black screen on my monitor--I get a splash screen, but nothing after that (this has been happening every time since the initial installation) I've tried to debugging dongle, but I'm having a hard time finding thorough documentation on how to use it. I managed to connect it to the smarttop and to my laptop running Ubuntu, open a serial terminal, but from there I can't read from the smarttop when I power it on (even when opening the device in the serial terminal) and it still boots from the internal drive taking me to that empty blank screen.

Okay, please note that while I'd like to consider myself a developer, I'm a rookie at developing. I'm learning and I'm more than willing to continue to learn until I'm adept. Point is, I need to get this working as soon as possible--I'm scheduled to demonstrate the robotics platform in September.

Any help is appreciated from the bottom of my heart.

Okay, I just found out puppy linux won't work with the ARM processor. For now, I'll try to use Maverick for the Efika MX models.

I also got my serial terminal to talk to the smarttop, so that's good. Now if I can just upload a fresh copy of it (this time while it's connected via ethernet), hopefully I should be able to get it to display without the epoc problem (which I'm assuming is my case).

If you need something cut down and don't even need a GUI try my headless image that I talk about on this thread:
