Hi all.

I am running an educatonal project (several actually) with EFIKA hardware, among others in Finland and Belgium, but soon also Russia. Some of the concepts can be read on this recently published paper: http://www.cc.puv.fi/~jd/IWES6/ which was presented at the annual workshop on embedded systems in Vaasa, Finland.

Disclaimer: I'm a lecturer at the Vaaasa University for Applied Sciences.

The idea now is to recycle some of the unused EFIKA's from around the world.
With the EFIKA 1 being phased out for the EFIKA 2, I was wondering if you would send all the EFIKa's which are currently unused to me so I can provide equipment cheaply (even free) for students to use and develop with. Maybe some of you are not using the EFIKA provided for free by Genesi, and would like to support the EFIKA development in a different way through this initiative.

Best regards,
Johan Dams

BTW since the matter came up.
Is there a time frame when Efika(1) will be EOL and no more are going to be produced ?

We have demo some designs based on Efika (including custom boxes) and i would hate myself if all this work has to be thrown away....

(I was under the impression that Efika will stay in production for at least a couple of years)

There is a general misconception here. The EFIKA as it is now will continue to be produced (slightly modified) and re-introduced in the form of consumer products by THTF at CES 2008. Genesi no longer produces the board. Others will. You can also buy the board and systems from distributors now.

In the meanwhile, we are focused on the next version of the EFIKA based on the 5121e.

R&B :-)

We will post the information when we have it. THTF does not launch their products until CES (7-10 Jan 2008).

R&B :)

Hi Johan,

While I cannot spare any EFIKAs, I have some Pegasos I lying around. They were donated by Genesi a couple of years back, and used in a school lab nearby using LTSP, but the school decided to upgrade the hardware. The systems are in full working order and each system consists of:

1. Pegasos I mobo
2. Radeon 9250 AGP
3. 128MB SDRAM (suitable for the Pegasos I)
4. a few low profile PCI-brackets (to fill the PCI slots)
5. Pegasos I back plates
6. Small PSU (suitable for low profile cases) same as the one in latest ODW systems.

But, the systems do NOT include disk NOR a case (we had put them in ATX cases, which the school will keep).

In total I have here 7 Pegasos I systems. Genesi agreed to provide a few (2-3?) of them to CHS here in Nafplion in case they want them, but the rest I suggested I offer here in powerdeveloper.org. But your post did the work! The pegasos I would find a nice new home with you :-)

If you're interested we can continue this discussion over email.

Konstantinos

That is great -- compounding developer donations -- who says we are not a community. 8)

hi Kostas,

we (as crux-ppc) are interested to have one. I don't have your email address but there is mine in the sign below.
Are you in Athens or Nafplion? Btw, we can continue in private.

greetz,

greetz,
Sure, I'm ok with that, and I suppose bbrv is as well. So, yes, I'm in Nafplion, but I do go to Athens from time to time (actually I was yesterday).
