Does anyone know how to connect IDE hard drive disk and IDE cd-rom to
EFIKA ?
Does exist a special cable ? Does anybody know how to make it ?

Thank you, Syner.

AFAIK it's not possible to connect anything special
to the onboard IDE controller. The IDE controller in
the CPU has limitations in length and that's why bPlan
decided to let you plug the HDD directly into the
connector. A normal 2.5" cable would put the HDD too
far away from the controller.

e.g. if you want to use EFIKA as a harddrive video recorder for TV or if you want to make a DVD EFIKA player or if you want to make an EFIKA multimedia center, or if you want to make an EFIKA as an car computer and dvd player.

The Efika won't allow you to play a DVD anyway, not fast enough unless we get some decent graphics drivers with mpeg2 hardware decoding, which is not the case for now.

Yes, but the EFIKA has no "normal" IDE controller. :P

If you need CD/DVD, USB 1.1 is your only choice, since
I guess you occupy your PCI-port with a video card.

Unless someone makes a magic PCI card with video and
IDE/SATA, the EFIKA can't be any complete HTPC solution.
You can use it to play streamed video over the network,
but don't expect it to be a DVD-player.

Yes it will. Just not under GNOME :)

You still didn't satisfy me. Is it really true that EFIKA can't run 2 IDE devices on a special 2.5" cable ?

I read about IDE controller here in MPC5200B data sheet:

http://www.freescale.com/files/32bit/do ... df?fsrch=1

But I really don't understand that cycles and stuff.
Controller is software programmable.

Is it theoretically possible to have 2 IDE devices on EFIKA ? Is it because of MPC5200B processor ? Is MPC5200B capable to run it ?

Thank you very much, Marek

:)

Show me any touchable proof, that MPC5200B ATA controller isn't capable to manage 2 ide devices together.

I found only one proof, that MPC5200B could manage 2 devices: it is in MPC5200B manual on the 391st page.
There is a diagram about cable specification of Drive 0 and Drive 1. The cable could be 0.46m of max. length.

In this table: "Table11-40. Reset Timing Characteristics" there is shown Drive 0 and Drive 1 timing.

Marek :D

who need to prove anything ?
you're asking questions and we're providing you with the informations we have. If you got better informations than we do then why do you open multiple threads to ask things that were discussed already in other threads, especially when you seem to know better than most of us do ? :-)
Please add your comments and informations on the dedicated threads, that will be valuable for eveyone. You seem to be documented, share it !

In theory, you could use an IDE hard disk and CD-ROM drive with the EFIKA if you use a buffered IDE interface, though I haven't actually tried it yet.

Or you could just use an IDE to USB adaptor.

We need to prove something and let everybody know if something runs or not.
Could you please post me where is the right thread for EFIKA ATA controller ?
