Btw.. is there something wrong with Austin airport? :P
I found that I can go to Austin via O'Hare.

Gothenburg-Frankfurt
Frankfurt-O'hare
O'hare-Austin

~6000 SEK, less than 700 EUR.

BBRV:
Can you give us any links to cheap hotels and the
rest people need to know about Austin.

Do we need a visa to enter the country or is a
normal passport enough?

@Arno

Good point. The target date for the Power.org Developer Conference has changed at least three times. To this day, there remains no solid venue or date set. We decided to resign from the planning committee and wait for Power.org to decide what it wants to do. In the meanwhile, we need to press ahead and do something. With the EFIKA it seems like we can get something good going - at least for Genesi. Eventually when decisions are made, we will support what Power.org wants to do.

Cool, Europe is alot closer. :P
Name the time and place and we'll be there. :)
By the way, is this a Freescale-sponsored event?

tarbos:
Yeah, I have wondered about that as well. But
I realized they changed the date from early
December and then it faded away..

Might be OK for Americans but unacceptable
for us travelling far who need to book the
flights a few months in advance. :/

Well, let's hope something happens in Europe!

I'd rather go for Germany, it's quite central. Best location would be the cologne/bonn area. The CGN airport has low cost connections throuout whole Europe.
Also the drive from Amsterdam or Frankfurt is not too distant. The DUS (50 km)and DTM (80km) airports are nearby which offer more (cheap as well as prime brand) connections (DTM has many low cost connections to east europe).
The railway conections to Switzerland (ICE), France (Thalys), Belgium (Thalys) and the Netherlands (ICE) are quite good.
It belongs to Europe's biggest agglomeration area (Rhein/Ruhr >10 000 000 inhabitants). Cologne is a famous media city and there are many possibilities for exhibitions/fairs/meetings of every size.
Last but not least it's not too far away from Steinbach (bplan gmbh) and not too far from my place ;-) (~180 km).

For cultural and party times Cologne is one of the most impressive cities of Europe.

:D There's nothing wrong with the Austin Airport... in fact it's very easy to get around in (being smaller than DFW or Houston) and of course it's closer to the destination. I mentioned earlier in this thread that this airport has incoming flights from multiple places throughout the United States as well as other countries. Flying in to Austin direct would definitely be the best way to go if there is a flight available.

I agree.
Germany would be an excellent place for the event in my opinion.

But I would prever Frankfurt as place for the event.
Frankfurt would make it easer for Bplan and it would allow them to quickly get extra equipment to the meeting if needed.

Cheers
Gunnar

A bit off topic, but no, they do not fly to Frankfurt. It's the typical RyanAir rip off. They *pretend* to fly to Frankfurt, but they fly to Frankfurt-Hahn, which is an Airport in the middle of nowhere more than 100 km away from Frankfurt. The trick why RyanAir can call this Frankfurt-Hahn is because the Fraport AG (the Frankfurt airport company) is the owner of Hahn airport, too. With the same approach they could even call Antalya (Turkey) Frankfurt-Antalya, one of the both terminals there is also owned by the Fraport AG. Do yourself a favour and avoid to fly to Germany with RyanAir - they have really a good fantasy (called marketing) when it comes down to name their destinations: They all sound like being somewhere usefull, but they are all in the middle of nowhere.
