Xgl is severly broken now on SUSE 10.1 PPC. It worked fine around beta3 with just two minor bugs it was quite usable. But it was continuosly developed and fixed in the past month during the SUSE test period, and now it almost does not work at all.
The problem is, that the main development targets are x86 machines with binary only ATI, Intel and Nvidia 3D video drivers. OSS X.org 3D is not officially supported. Xgl is developed by Novell/SuSE with their next generation corporate desktop Linux in mind, and there these three dominate, and a binary driver is not considered evil
The good news is, that the lead developer has plans to fix it when has some time and access to PPC. I think, it will come after their Linux Desktop offering is released...
BTW: my experiences are described at
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=165794 , you are also very welcome to use the SuSE bugzilla!
