Post subject:  installation of OpenSuseGM 10.0 on ODW

I am trying to install SuseGM10.0 ppc on Open Desktop Workstation with pegasosII. It said that yast should start in text mode since computer does not have 96MB or X server could not start. Hmm. it does have 512MB RAm and Ati Radeon 9250 whic chould be supported. However, i continued in text mode which is not problem for me, but when I accepted the way of installation that Yast suggested it said that suggested method does have error which should be corrected before proceeding. theonly error that may be essential islocation of boot loader. All the rest, languge, kerboard etc. is peanuts, I suppose. Can anyone suggest what I should do to fix the problem, thouth there i sno error message which will enform on error, since the suggestion is made by Yast itself.

Thanks,

vedran

Hello,
Just a few URL-s to get started:
PPC page at openSUSE: http://www.opensuse.org/POWER@SUSE
booting and some installation related things are described at: http://www.opensuse.org/PPC:Boot_pegasos
X11 configuration is described at: http://www.opensuse.org/PowerPC_X11_configuration
There is also an AppNote available (if you have just received a new ODW): http://www.freescale.com/files/32bit/do ... AN2930.pdf

Basically:
- use video=radeonfb:1024x768@85 for being able to install on a graphical screen (or use any other screen resolution greater or equeal to 800x600@60)
- do not install a boot manager, but follow instrction outlined on webpage
- if you already have an Amiga partition table, don't modify it, other way your data will be lost, as YaST only knows DOS partition table. Use the expert partitioner to forma and assign partitions.
Have a lot of fun!
Bye,
CzP

Thanks on links. installation of CD1 went well, but as far as installation of CD2 is concerned I can say that there is no suseboot/inst32 on CD2, so it i snot possible to boot it in that way.
Hmmm. how can I boot the second installation CD?

Thanks,

vedran

Post subject:  second CD

i realized that he first one should remain in the tray unless the necessary steps are taken. This maybe should be put in the manual, so that anyuone will not be confused. However, those who installed Suse on ordinary PC shoul dknow, but nevertheless it i sgood to be precise as much as possible.

Thanks,

If you read french, I've done a small tutorial for installing Linux Suse on Pegasos.
It will be soon available in the Pegasos Book in english.

You can have a look here : http://obligement.free.fr/articles/susepegasos.php

I have sent to Freescale my additions to their SuSe installation manual and it seems to me that they will update it.

However, please inform me when your book will be available on English. I am sorry that I do not read French :-(((

Well the book is already available in english but the "Linux Suse installation" is not yet inside (and in french version too).

But it's coming soon ;-)
