Microsoft and Novell have agreed to build and market solutions so that Novell's technology works on Microsoft's and vice versa. Specifically, customers will now be able to run virtualized SUSE Linux Enterprise on Windows or Windows on SUSE Linux Enterprise.
SLES10 runs on the ODW and then there is this:

Novell has a leading role in many OSS developments, such as mono, OpenOffice, in most of the file systems and networking protocols, etc. Practically it means, that Microsoft will not sue OSS developers for making compatible software. I'm following closely the talks on different openSUSE mailinglists, and even hardcore kernel developers welcome the move.
