For legal reasons, openSUSE does not include software to play
mp3/dvd/divx/etc. Thes packages are done by a SUSE usergroup, called
'PackMan', and made available seperately. They only have x86, so I try to
recompile on PPC.

It's far from complete, as I got tired from creating all the necessary
'-devel' packages (full PPC distro is only available 6th October), and
I'm not a programmer to fix broken altivec optimalisations.

I have compiled:
- libxine1
- xine-ui
- kaffeine
- libdvdcss2 (as far as I know, it's legal to put it on-line here in
Hungary, but I still have to consult a lawyer ).
- vobcopy
( and some others, to get these running).
This is enough to play any mp3/divx/dvd.

I used y2pmbuild-10.0 for building all of the packages. I had to modify
some spec files with some additional BuildRequires lines (I sent feedback
to Packman developers).

If you add the above mentioned URL as installation source, it complains
that product info is missing, but it works anyway.

Please provide me with some feedback: if they work for you, if I made
any mistakes in packaging, etc. It's the first time, that I used
y2pmbuild, and the first time, that looked at a spec file in 5-6 years

What about MPlayer?

That has two problems:

- is has many dependencies, which are not in the released version of openSUSE PPC (only the CD release is available now, which lacks half of the packages and most of the '-devel' packages, the full release comes only on 6th October)

- PPC optimalisations seem to be broken, probably due to GCC 4. But I'm not a programmer, so it's only a guess from compilation output... (I tried to compile the 'libpostprocess' package, which is based on MPlayer)

mplayer is built in the Livna repository for Fedora Core 4, with Altivec optimisation and GCC4. If you're having trouble building it, perhaps you could crib from there?

Thanks, it works. I just borrowed one patch, which fixes ftdc_altivec.c I'll put it on line later on, when I have some more time, but now I'm preparing, as I have to give some lectures tomorrow and on Tuesday
