Hello,

Seems to me from e-mail-s and forum responses, that the openSUSE webpages and bugzilla.novell.com are not very popular here :x

So, first of all, I try to point to some resources:

The main PPC related page at openSUSE is:

Booting and installation problems are best described at:

Solution for X11 problems is available at:
http://www.opensuse.org/PowerPC_X11_configuration
It describes how to get a PS/2 mouse and 3D working.

And one of the first fixed bug is: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=116407
For now, use only MD5SUMs available in the ftp directory, as the built in self test is not working.

I will try to keep you posted about bugs and fixes here, but please, please check the resources mentioned frequently!

Next tip from bugzilla (I will have a chance to try it only in the evening): to get graphical install to work, use the following command line parameter to the kernel: video=radeonfb:1024x768@75
The problem is, that the framebuffer uses 640x480 resolution as default, but graphical installation needs at least 800x600.

Right now I'm trying to compile the packman packages (http://packman.links2linux.de/) for openSUSE ppc. These are addon packages, which are missing from the distribution for legal reasons (like mp3 and dvd related packages), or newer versions of some packages for older distributions (as the standard SUSE policy is, that they only provide bug and security fixes for old distros, but no newer version of packages. It's a bit difficult, as it's a new platform, and there are some packages less, compared to the x86 version, first I have to replace those...

At the same time, I'm relearning editing of rpm spec files to get Altivec optimisations in, where it's possible.

They know about it, as I'm on the openSUSE mailing list. They will release the full PPC distro on the 6th of October (together with x86 and amd86_64). That will make things a lot more easy. But these problems also help to master rpm and the SUSE package building facilities ;-)

I have compiled part of the packman package collection for openSUSE RC1, so mp3/dvd/divx/xvid and company are working fine. If anyone is interested, I'l put it on-line somewhere.

Ooops, sorry, I was a bit too early with this. But I will post some well tested packages during the weekend.
