Post subject: | PowerPC Packman Repository Updates |
First of all: Happy New Year for anybody, who has it tonight and also for those, who have it at an other date! :-) While the rest of the world was enjoying Christmas and visiting relatives, the Packman team was working hard. They updated many packages during the holidays. I tried to catch up during the past few days. 10.3, 11.0 packages are compiled and uploaded, 11.1 is left for next year :-) |

I've installed k3b and vlc and they're going well(mp3 support in k3b seems ok) so thanks for the welcome news and best wishes to you :D |

If anyone uses pulse audio and Xine together, today's Packman update brings some important fixes. Xine-lib and pulse audio should now work together without any problems. And of course, there were many other little version upgrades. |

Updated kde4-kmplayer in the 11.1 repo. It is a front end to MPlayer, fitting nicely in the KDE4 environment. |

I uploaded some package updates this morning. There is one important update: ffmpeg, which fixes some security problems. |

Many updates, now xine-ui, ffmpeg and some other codec packages were updated to 2009 releases... |

Just when I thought, that all packages are up to date, and no updates come for a while, ffmpeg and libxine and all the related codec packages were updated again. As usual, packages for openSUSE 10.3, 11.0 and 11.1 are available at ftp://spike.fa.gau.hu/pub/ 8610 at your service :-) Compilation took just three hours instead of a whole day, as was the case with the Pegasos. |

Imagine, what a 8640D or 8641D could do with two of these cores and normal size caches (1M instead of 256k). Even if it is a dead end for Freescale, a board based on these CPUs would be fantastic and could serve us for a while. Of course, it is not the economic situation right now, when one could build a system just for fun... |

Keeping the PPC dream alive: my 8610 is working hard since this morning (7+ hours!), as there were many updates during the weekend to Packman to all three living openSUSE versions (10.3, 11.0 and 11.1), including lib-xine, mldonkey and wxWidgets. Everything is uploaded by now, except for wxWidgets, but AFAIK, no Packman package depends on it any more (it was originally included to support VLC, but recent versions use QT). |

Just uploaded another round of ffmpeg & Co. updates. BTW: I'm just about to install XFCE 4.6 on my PC, and if it works stable, then I'll try to prepare a PPC build for openSUSE 11.1. Don't hold your breath, it'll take a couple of days :) |

XFCE 4.6 is just fantastic: 1/3 loading time and a much better overall responsiveness, when XFCE 4.4 was already a lot faster than GNOME/KDE on the same machine. Now all I need is to find a little time to compile it for PPC... |

Still did not have enough time for XFCE, but I just uploaded yet another large Packman update. Ffmpeg is upgraded from 0.4.9 to 0.5, and it did not seem to break anything :) |

Another large update for Packman. Whith this update lib-xine and ffmpeg should be able to cope with full HD movies on SMP machines as decoding became multi threaded. MPlayer should follow soon. Let me know, if anyone had success with it, I don't have an SMP PPC machine available to test it... |
