Unfortunately, it is necessary!

Sometimes, it drives us crazy too, but this is the best way to keep the spammers out as they are compensated for posts and what they gain as click-throughs.

R&B :)

grrr... I understand, but it's really boring :-(

I'm not sure it prevents a spammer of doing whatever he wants to put a website upside down.
I thought it was also necessary to register before posting ?

But, of course it's your website and the only thing I can do is to make a poll so you have everybody's opinion about it :-)

What we've seen happen a number of times on the gentoo forums is that a spammer (or worse a bunch of them simultaneously) signs up, activates the account and uses a script to mass post spam all over the forums. The time limit is very useful in mitigating such attacks. And the "mass delete posts from user" feature is very helpful in cleaning up anything that does get posted before the spammer is banned.

I suppose the post time limit feature could be modified to take into account the period the user has been active and/or the number of posts he has contributed already. The search flood limit feature was modified in such a way on the gentoo forums.

thats a very good idea. so if you get over 15 posts or so the flood control is pared back

I like this idea.
Maybe your registering date could also be taken in account (more than a month would be ok for example ?)
