I'm surely not the only one, who compiles lots of cool stuff
under linux, which is not available as precompiled packages
Among 1000 others there are f.e.
e-uae-0.8.27, mythtv0.16, avidemux, dvdstyler, mjpegtools, lives,
xmame0.87, advancemame0.87 and so on...
Is there any reason, why there are no precompiled packages?
If not, lets make some and release them somewhere for everybody!

PS: Any idiot-proof HOWTOs to cross-compile under linux for MOS?
(I'm not quiet sure if my MOS-GCC is really 100% working)

We have the infrastructure here to do such, depending on the size of the files. Right now there is a 2M limit, though that can change in the future. Right now, our biggest obstical for such is the category structure used for delivering files. It would be really nice if we had a community member step up that would be willing to help with their ideas on how to categorize files on PPCZone. (Keep in mind, any MorphOS related files should probably go to MorphZone.)

Yes, Dave, we need to do that here. Why the limit? We will find more space if we need it. This has to be a thoroughly useful site. For example, we should also have the latest ISOs for all the distributions that run on the platform available for download. And, yes, MorphOS stuff should be on MorphZone, not here.

I agree, having the ISO's here would be a tremendous benefit to all. I doubt I would allow such an upload from regular users, since that would involve FTP. I really doubt that we would want to even try such a large file being transported up via PHP. It's just not a good idea; however, having ISO's as a download would be great. We just need a said ISO to be given to someone trusted with an ftp account. (wouldn't be a problem really)

The 2M limit is for general user uploads. I would like to bump that up to about 5M or 6M with a capacity of 12 (where one of us would have to be notified of an upload larger than the default 5 or 6).

If we do start hosting ISO's we'll need to see about picking up a little more bandwidth, as ISO's can really eat that away from us in a hurry.


@frostwork: I would love to see stuff ported to both Linux and MorphOS. PPCZone and MorphZone share the same upload engine and have the same limits. If it's open source, I would certainly ask that the source be provided in a seperate archive, but also uploaded.

Am I to understand that you have compiled those packages for Pegasos? Mythtv, Euae, etc?? If so, please make them available to us...

Also: About cross-compile to MOS.. I'm afraid that unless you have good exp with this it may prove difficult as the public gcc for MOS is slightly buggy and the current SDK needs work. You would probably have to do alot of diagnostic bugfixing...

Mythtv or Freevo ported to MOS would be outstanding.

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, near the top of the list of posts there is a "Reply" button which is kind of like a "quick reply" button. Finally, and my favorite, there is a "Quote" button in the upper right-hand corner of every post that not only give you "reply" but automagically quotes the previous post for you!!!!!!

Yes, they work on Pegasos/linux!
Richard Drummond will get my Peg1 soon, as he's going to port his
latest UAE 0.8.27 to MOS (I didn't succeed )
MythTV needed some twirks here, but works (didn't test/compile all plugins).
I'm going to look into, how to best make debian-packages out of it.
I made some some time ago, that probably isn't the problem,
but how do I best check the dependencies of the proggies?
Well if I don't succeed, I can in any case make tarballs....

PS: Oh, forgot this:
The latest snapshot of the upcoming qemu0.61 is able to launch
directly in fullscreenmode AND is able to load a systemstate
(ie. you boot up f.e. Win once and save the state)
Later you can directly load this state, and if you include qemu
into your OF-BootMenu with this option you have probably the
fastest-booting WIN of the world
(works great here with AROS )

PS Did Mythtv directly compile for you on the Peg? If you could make .deb pkg of it that would really be a boon. What Video card have you tried with it and have you done capture?

I gave Richard my peg for free, as I think that his UAE is very important
for the MOS-community...
I already found some howtos to make debian-packages, but did not yet
look deeper into it, as I compile the whole day
MythTV compiled without big trouble, but I don't have internetaccess on
my peg, so I can't create xml-tv-settings (or can I anyway somehow?).
That's why I don't know, if it likes my TerraTValue.
I'll get a Hauppauge PVR 350 soon, which will hopefully work
(although I've read that it doesn't, I'm still quiet optimistic that it will work
somehow -> ivtv drivers 0.1.10-??? compiled successfully without any
errors, so they only have to work).
If not maybe v4l2 will do the job alone?
I'm going to look deeper into the deb-making soon, btw
e-uae-0.8.27-rc2 is ready to rock

I managed to make myth-tv debian packages...
They are far from being professional, but seem to work somehow...
I didn't put any dependencies, just only recommends, as I don't know
which versions of other software is needed. Probably I did not mention
all packages needed, and I don't know, if it'll work on your systems.
So please be CAREFUL with installing/using my compile!!!
Now I only should upload somewhere, but my packages seem to be too big
for here... So whereelse?

Other packages will follow soon (f.e. the new avidemux seems to rock
very good ), but I received my PVR 350, and I need some time to
fight it
BTW: All ivtv modules compiled good, card and all chips are recognized correctly,
ALL modules work (no errors), I already have the test_image outputted via
ivtvfb modules on my tv, but I can't stream/watch yet...
But if I will get it working, I think that the Pegasos2 is the only PPC-machine
where it works
