Cheers!
Maybe it's interesting for someone...
I found debian packages for ppc here:
http://garbure.org/debian/pool/main/c/

If you install manually don't forget the libs under

cinelerra is already available on ppc in Gentoo Portage. But you have to use the 'cinelerra-cvs' package until they release an official version with ppc support.
Simply run 'emerge cinelerra-cvs' if you want to install it.

Oh, OK!
Thanks for the hint!
I don't have internet at home, that's why it's a little bit hard for me
to find latest releases...
But, hey, at least I found debian-packages, eh? :)

Thanks for posting the pkgs here. :-)

My question is this: Is the Pegasos2 g4 fast enough for this application?

I have KINO up and working and capture/playback of video is way slow and not usable.. :-((

We need Altivec optimized versions or something... the Peg2 HW should be plently fast for this kind of things..

Hi! :)
In theory our peg2 would be ways far enough for sure :)
The prob is, that this proggie was written for x86-stuff
(the readme recommends a 2.6 GHz PeeCee or so...),
so it's not very optimized for ppc...
Sadly there are not really other alternatives :(
I compiled the latest cvs-snapshot recommended by dholm
under debian (my gentoo 2005.0 installation worked fine on the 1st try with
GRPed Xorg & kde, all later tries refused to start X....(?) )
If I only knew a place where to upload packages for our Pegs...
(same with mythtv some time ago...)

Mayber you already know it but "avidemux" is really useful, too :)

Kino IS usable on PegII/G4. During summer hollidays I edited and mastered a video from my family's hollidays.

First of all search the forum on Kino's homepage. You simply need to compile it by yourself and build it with libavcodec support enabled. You also need some endianess specific patches (some of them are available on my homepage, I need to finish some more of them).

If you set the ffmpeg USE-flag it should be compiled with avcodec support, no need to compile it manually. I'll see if I can get your patches into portage.

About what "ffmpeg-USE" flag you are talking about? I didn't found anything like it.

I simply compiled Kino by myself. To achieve a bit more speed up compile it with "-O3 -mcpu=7450 -mtune=7450 -mpowerpc-gfxopt" compiler options and use GCC 3.4.x.

Kino without my patches is totally unusable on ppc. Filters produce corrupted sound, video preview is corrupted and exporting fails.

Also notice that the only working movie format is RAW DV. AVIs and MOVs are corrupted (probably endianess bugs in libdv, but I gave up hunting them), but this isn't a big problem.

Ooops. I didn't realise that it could be Gentoo specific thing. I use Debian on my PegII.
