The 2D performance on the Efika MX is improved, but the OpenGL ES performance is very low. Demos that used to run at ~ 60FPS are running at 12FPS, and demos that heavily rely on shaders run at 7FPS instead of ~ 30FPS.

The March 2011 image has the opposite problem, 2D performance is poor, but the 3D performance is okay, although not as performant as other devices using the Adreno 200 / AMD Z430.

Is there any workaround or solution for this?

This is a known bug, noted in the blog for the May image.

Is there a work-around for the OpenGL ES performance problems other than using an outdated image file?

The September update image fixes the OpenGL ES performance problems. The frame rate is better.

The frame rate problems were entirely down to the path through the Xorg server and it was hitting an unaccelerated path at the last step; blitting it to a window. We fixed it to accelerate more often.. it was actually technically a memory problem (we ran out so the GL window gets migrated to system memory).
