Hi,

I've recently bought both a Smarttop and a Smartbook. The browser performance is ok considering the hardware and Flash isn't so very interesting anyway, because it'd be slow and consume the laptop battery. However, better JavaScript performance would be a big plus, especially because of Google Docs and WordPress visual editor. So far I've used the included FF 3.6.16 and tried a couple of WebKit-based browsers (Konqueror and Arora), but the results haven't been encouraging. FF4 and the latest WebKits with the ARM-optimized version of Nitro should do a lot better, but as of now they aren't available. Has anyone found any solutions so far?

The SunSpider reading for FF3 is 12076 ms and for the WebKit-based browsers a bit above 14000 ms. For the sake of comparison FF3 on a comparable PPC machine gives approximately the same result but with Safari it's twice as fast. A recent iPod Touch with Safari goes down to 4146 ms, so better performance would seem possible on Efika, too.

edit: Chromium (package chromium-browser) seemed to do the trick. Pretty usable GDocs and WP. SunSpider rating 5172 ms - thank you Google!
