You should not use scsi emulation, but an atapi device directly. This works
fine for CD burners and so under linux, as explained in the 2.6 part of the
/usr/share/doc/cdrecord/README.ATAPI.setup document.

This is probably a MOL question, so it would best be asked on the MOL forum :)
And the question would be :

How to setup an ATAPI cdrom/burner under linux 2.6 in mol.

I use hdc=scsi in kernel 2.6.9 and it works, in Gentoo. In Debian, I use 2.6.8 and also works.

I use mount /dev/sr0 /mnt/cdrom to mount my dvd drive.

This are the modules I get with lsmod:

Module Size Used by
nls_utf8 1856 1
isofs 34584 1
ide_cd 42692 0
ide_scsi 16004 1
sr_mod 17028 1
scsi_mod 81120 2 ide_scsi,sr_mod
cdrom 44540 2 ide_cd,sr_mod
[...]

Does it help?

BTW, are these forums the ones we are supposed to use?
I suggest to just leave a link to the old forums, but remove them from the main page. Is a bit confusing. I didn't know they were split ... ^^;

Oh, i didn't know about that. Sure you can use that, but i hear the ATAPI way
is the recomended one for burners on 2.6.

Ok.

Yep.

I have been asking for the removal of the old ones since ages, but well. The
nice thing about the new forums is that they have an email interface too, like
the PLC used to have, which is the prefered way of discussion for most linux
folk over the web thingy. And i much prefer reply to email lists than have to
go to the web site and do the forum thing there.

In Gentoo (kernel 2.6.10) I am using the atapi device, and it seems to burn DVDs (I use growisofs), but then some of the files (well, MOST of the files) in the DVD become unreadable!

I tried burning the same thing in Debian ( 2.6.8 ), using SCSI emulation and growisofs, and the resulting DVD is perfectly readable...

Is there something wrong with the new kernels? Any idea?

I was amazed to find out that the ide-scsi emulation was completely broken now with kernel 2.6.11-r1 under gentoo.

I've used my DVDRW to burn files & images under MacOSX with success so far, but now there doesn't seem to be any way to get the burning working as when the DVDRW is used as ATAPI drive.

Well, with 2.6.9-r? it still works so better not to upgrade to a newer kernel if you need burn support in MOL. Or if MOL will get fixed...ever :)

ide-scsi is obsolet and will be killed in the near future. Use the atapi stuff
instead. If MOL has trouble with it, MOL needs to be fixed.

I guess it will only get fixed if people show interest in it.
