Grub2 is a nice boot loader working on many platforms (x86, sparc, ppc) and now you can try it on your Pegasos/Efika. If you want know more about this program visit
http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/grub-2.en.html

I tested it on Pegasos 1, Pegasos 2 and Efika and it works just fine on all of them (Yes on P1 too, but some adjustments in OF are required in case of this machine)

Download it from http://www.tbs-software.com/morgoth

There is still some problems, but it should be functional enough for normal use. I am not grub developer then I am not sure how correct my changes are, but I send patches to grub mailing list already.

Big ThX for 'nyu' from #grub for some background informations and help.

And finaly please in case of any problems do not ask grub developers for help as they are not resp for my changes just poke me here or on irc (FreeNode, #castor-cvs)

Thanks, tested, and it works fine on my Pegasos. I had just one problem: I had to put it on an ext2 partition, it did not work on an ext3 partition (created by openSUSE 10.3).

A quick question about your grub2 fix for EFIKA: are your patches already upstream? If not, could you send them to me? There is somebody willing to fix yaboot for the EFIKA, and your patches could provide useful input!

Hi Peter,

The patches are on the GRUB mailing list archive;

http://lists.gnu.org/archive/cgi-bin/na ... grub-devel

There is one here (sorry about the different archive) which includes the full, combined patch to GRUB2 if it's not already in GRUB2 CVS (http://cvs.savannah.gnu.org/viewvc/grub/grub2/)
