From the "Freescale Design News" news letter:

"Recently, a Freescale/MontaVista customer required an automotive SOC-based solution that could boot within one second. The challenge was to provide visual feedback by displaying critical real-time data in less than one second from power-on without using resume/suspend due to a very limited power budget and temperature range. The solution, based on Freescale's e300 core [a 5121e chip] built on Power Architecture® technology, also had to be resilient to power loss in order to prevent data corruption."

Yes, it is cool. GNU/Linux provides many options. When you get people that understand what needs to be done and how to do it, a certain discipline takes over. Said another way, when one thing and not everything is important the results naturally improve.

There are some great people that work with Montavista.
