Hello,

i have got an efika and everything went fine on installation
debian ppc. But i have one thing left: auto-boot

That'swhat i have done so far:
Code:
setenv boot-device hd:0
setenv boot-file /boot/kernel_efika root=/dev/sda1
setenv auto-boot? true
setenv auto-boot-timeout 5000
When the efika starts to, it tries to boot from network
interface, but i already set the boot-device to hd:0

Whats wrong with my settings??

regards

eliot

Those setting look sane and should work. Do you see any messages, that indicate that your hard drive is found/not found when the efika tries to boot? maybe the drive is not ready or something like that.

EDIT: maybe you are missing: "boot-command boot"?

No, if i enter
Code:
boot hd:0 /boot/kernel_efika root=/dev/sda1
everything is fine.
If i enter boot, it tries to start from network, although
the boot-device is set to hd:0

Hello,

now i found the solution:

I had to set diag-switch? to false,
if it is true, of tries to start from
diag-device.

It's a shame, that there is no complete
documentation about the of.

regards

André

What documentation did you read to set diag-switch to true in the first place? That same documentation is what you are looking for.. :D

Many thanks for the found decision of the given problem. I tried to find out in what a problem, but and have not found the reason.

To Neko:
Interestingly, and where in documentation it is written, what with TRUE of parameter diag-switch? we can have the given problem.

Also with TRUE of parameter diag-switch? speed of work with usb devices very strongly falls. For example, loading OpenSuse 10.3 loader (5138435 bytes) lasts about 7 minutes from my usb flash. At the switched off parameter loading occurs for some seconds.

Very interestingly...

The IEEE 1275 specification.

What it does is implementation dependant.

If USB is too slow when diag-switch? is true, then make sure it isn't. You must have set it to true yourself, in which case this is a problem you created yourself.

Simply do not play with flags you do not understand and then tell us you need to know why they cause crazy effects, because.. frankly, I think the documentation is out there already. We've had the documentation discussion before in-house and the end result is always that there are so few, minor differences from the IEEE 1275 standard (which is 13 years old..) that, we do not need to document it *again*.
