login as root on CLI
type "apt-get install alsa"
and say yes to install dependences
switch back to Xwindows ... clik on 'Applications->Multimedia->Volume Control
clik on 'Sound Blaster Live! (Alsa Mixer)
Your speakers need to be pluged in to the black socket and volume control is at ' Wave Surround' for some strange reson.

Thanks for the post. This kind of info is needed. However, isnt ALSA built into the 2.6 kernel?

Now i can choose Cirrus Logic CS4297A rev4 (OSS MIXER) and SigmaTel STAC9766/67 (OSS Mixer).

Why are you using OSS?

The Cirrus Logic thing seems to be a quirk of the AC97 driver
making a phantom chip.

I suggest you try first removing ALL OSS support from your
kernel (at the expense of some application support), even
the emulation options. Just compile in ALSA support, remove
the AC97 driver and only include emu10k.

That should reduce any conflicts to 0.

Why is it not right?

The Sigmatel is the onboard peg AC97 sound IIRC.

The other is the SbLive...
