Hello!
I have a problem using v4l overlay (my video app is Zapping). When i turn on "overlay" mode colors get all wrong, looks like inverted. Seems that it's endianess problem. Does anyone know how to cure it? May be there's some option for "v4l" X module?
My distro is Debian Sarge Stable 3.1r0. Please don't ask to upgrade, i: 1) like "stable" things; 2) don't have a possibility to download 2.5 DVDs of Etch.

What are you using to capture video into v4l? It may be simply a driver problem there (in theory your video hardware should be told to give a compatible output to the graphics card overlay to reduce conversion) or maybe in the overlay driver of the graphics card (perhaps a wrong conversion type specifier) given the input.

It would be good to know what kind of video is being pushed through the system and which color (YV12?) format the overlay thinks it uses.

AVerTVStudio (BT878-based).

There should be some debug output you can turn on from V4L or the BT878 driver, and definitely you can have Xv report which overlays it's supporting and even running.

i have correct colours with zapping-0.10.x on my
brand-new & anyway amazing stable gentoo system :)
you could try if there's a switch between v4l & v4l2 - maybe one of them works.
The same endian-colour problem exists on effectv btw
