About XGI, it doesn't sound very healthful to me if I read the Wiki. I am not sure if this is good choice.

Well, Matthias, there are not too many other choices and not one of those has given us the source code, but XGI has. For now, it is perfect and gets us where we want to be when this arrives:

It is all part of the plan...

Hi Bill.
What is exactly the "3D graphics engine" module drawn on your diagram ? Is it a XGI 3D Chip with standard 3D api low level features or something like this ?

Because what I would call a "3D engine" is a software application (like OpenScenGraph, OSG, Apocalyx, Crystal space...) using OpenGL, DirectX 3D or any other 3D low level api (drivers sources)... So I get confused looking at this diagram which seems more hardware than software... Maybe this should be called "3D graphics core" or something like this ?

Not necessarily.. for now just assume, that it is a capable 3D graphics solution. It needn't be any particular brand, vendor or API, or fixate on any software API on top, since there will be plenty of driver support.

3D Graphics Engine is just as good terminology for it.

An engine runs your car, for example. Would you consider that it is an Internal Combustion Core? And that the fuel injection system and other control software in modern cars is the true "Engine"?
